Types of Landforms -Mountain -Hill -Valley -Plain -Plateau Internal Structure of the Eath -Core -Mantle -Crust Layers of the Earth Core -Temperature can be as high as 5000 degrees Celsius Mantle -Almost 2900 kilometres thick -Makes up 80% of the Earth's total volume -Temperature reach more than 2000 degrees Celsius -Upper part of the layer is often in a semi-molten/ semi-liquid state Crust -Outermost layer of the Earth - Solid -Varies in thivkness from 6 to 70 kilometres -Made up of many seperate pieces called plates Crustal Plates of the Earth -African Plate -Antarctic Plate -Indo-Australian Plate -Eurasian Plate -North American Plate -South American Plate -Pacific Plate Internal Forces that Create Landforms Slide past= Transform Faults Pull apart= Divergent Plates Push towards=Converging Plates Folding -When two plates collide with each other, some of the layers of rock which make up the Earth's crust buckle and form folds -Amount of folding that takes place can be so large that mountains are formed. Eg. The Himalayas Other than the Himalayas, other major fold mountain ranges include the Appalachian Mountainsin North America, the Andes in South America ans the Alps in Europe.
